The National Innovation Council (NIC) announces its first call for executive member representatives to the NIC. Pursuant to Section 6 of RA 11293, the creation of NIC comprising of 18 national government agencies shall include seven (7) executive members from the ranks of business, entrepreneur, academe, and the scientific community; with at least one (1) of whom shall be a woman.

Nominees for NIC Executive Members must be endorsed by a nominating party that is: (a) duly registered or licensed business organization, Research & Development Institutes (RDI), or academic institution; and (b) preferably with nation- or region-wide coverage of services or operations.

BACKGROUND

Republic Act (RA) No. 11293, otherwise known as the Philippine Innovation Act, declares the policy of the State to foster innovation as a vital component of national development and sustainable economic growth.

Pursuant to Section 6 of RA 11293, the creation of the National Innovation Council (NIC) comprising of 18 national government agencies shall include seven (7) executive members from the ranks of business, entrepreneur, academe, and the scientific community, and at least one of whom shall be a woman. There shall be at least one representative from the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), and at least one from the academe and scientific community.

With this, NEDA is opening the Call for Nominations for the Executive Members of the NIC until October 31 2022.

EVALUATION CRITERIA
The applicants will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

Leadership and competence.
Excellent innovation leadership capacity, commitment, and track record;

Network. High level of influence and integrity in building and improving the sector’s innovation ecosystem;

Recognition and awards. Exemplary achievements in innovation and excellence in the form of prizes and awards obtained at local, national and international levels; and
Vision. Compelling vision and plan for innovation in the sector or country.
