The NEDA Regional Office (NRO) VI in Western Visayas will spearhead the conduct of the 26th Regional Statistics Quiz for high school students. The event will be NRO VI’s contribution to the celebration of the National Statistics Month (NSM) this October 2015.
Regional Director Ro-Ann A. Bacal of the NRO VI is the Chairperson of the Regional Statistics Committee (RSC), a special committee of the Regional Development Council (RDC) in Region VI that is coordinating preparations for the month-long celebration of the NSM.
The activity will be conducted in coordination with the UP Statistical Society members and will be held at the RDC VI Conference Hall, NRO VI Building, Fort San Pedro, Iloilo City on October 23.
The Regional Statistics Quiz for High School Students is the oldest among all annual regional activities undertaken during the NSM celebration and has been successfully coordinated by the NEDA for the last 25 years.
The contest is designed to develop appreciation for statistics among high school students, enable the youth to explore their skills in statistics and its application in other fields of interest, as well as, recognize the efforts of teachers/coaches of the various participating schools in the region. It is participated by both public and private high school students in Western Visayas.
Prizes and trophies will be awarded to the first, second and third prize winners where the champion will receive PhP15,000 and a trophy, the second placer will get PhP10,000 and a trophy and the third prize winner will be awarded with PhP8,000 plus a trophy.
The NSM celebration is undertaken annually to promote, enhance and instill national awareness and appreciation of the importance and value of statistics to the different sectors of society. Its celebration also aims to elicit cooperation and support from the general public in upgrading the quality and standards of statistics in the country.
Presidential Proclamation No. 647 declares every month of October as National Statistics Month. This year’s theme is “Pagyamanin at Gamitin and Estadistika, Kalusugan para sa Lahat ay Abot Kamay Na.”
