Economic Planning Secretary and NEDA Director-General Arsenio M. Balisacan (left) met with the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization(FAO) Philippine representative Jose Luis Fernadez last June 3, at the Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria.
Secretary Balisacan discussed the need to strengthen the Philippine agriculture sector and its importance to economic growth. He said that the government must ensure that policies supporting growth are also productivity-enhancing. For his part, Mr. Fernandez said the FAO would support the government’s agenda and coordinate its initiatives with the Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).
