Economic Planning Secretary and NEDA Director-General Arsenio M. Balisacan stressed the crucial role of the Regional Development Councils (RDCs) in integrating gender and development at the local and regional levels, during his keynote speech at the 1st Regional Gender and Development Council (RGADC) Summit, which was held last August 14 at the Oracle Hotel in Quezon City.
To ensure that the country’s growth is inclusive and sustainable, Secretary Balisacan cited the need to facilitate the creation of equal growth opportunities across regions and localities, and to address regional and local gender and development concerns.
The summit was attended by the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) Chairperson Remedios I. Rikken, NEDA Regional Directors, regional focals for Gender and Development, Romblon Governor Eduardo C. Firmalo, and Surigao del Norte Governor Sol F. Matugas. Other NEDA Officials present were Deputy Director-General Margarita R. Songco and Director Erlinda M. Capones of the Social Development Staff (SDS).
