Economic Planning Secretary and NEDA Director-General Arsenio M. Balisacan (left) welcomed participants of the Dissemination Forum on the Preliminary Results of the 2013 NDHS on April 30, 2014 at the Bayview Park Hotel Manila.

In his opening remarks, Sec. Balisacan said that the NDHS is a crucial data source that effectively guides government initiatives for improved and inclusive health systems in the country. The Survey’s preliminary report indicated that 60 percent of all the child births in the country in the five years preceding the survey were delivered in health facilities and that the percentage of births delivered by health professionals increased to 73 percent in 2013 from 62 percent in 2008. The Survey also revealed the country’s declining fertility rate, with women in rural areas being more fertile than their urban counterparts.
